We are open weekdays, Mon-Fri. 8AM - 5PM
Many seniors and disabled adults are capable of staying in their own homes longer if they have periods of supervision. Being alone 24 hours a day is the factor which increases the likelihood of experiencing falls & other accidents in the home. Getting out of the house & being in a supervised setting with other seniors gives them a chance to remain independent much longer.
One of the things that older people miss the most once they retire or become ill is a sense of purpose, a reason to get up in the morning. Spending day after day at home alone waiting for family or friends to come by can become isolating, leaving your loved one at risk of developing depression. Ohana Adult Day Program can restore a sense of purpose to their lives & give them a reason to be excited about getting up each day.
Social participation has a profound effect on physical & emotional health. Staying actively engaged has been proven to reduce cognitive decline, alleviate feelings of social isolation & depression, reduce the risk of developing dementia, & allow for the development of friendships & social supports.
Many seniors do not cook nutritious meals for themselves because they don’t want to eat alone, or do not want to make a full meal just for themselves, or because they don’t feel confident using the stove or cooking with heavy pots & pans. When your loved ones are at Ohana, you can rest assured knowing that they are getting at least one nutritious meal while in our care, with plenty of snacking between.
Caregivers need time for themselves, especially if you are caring for your loved one, and/or have a job or family that demands much of your time. It is okay to allow time for yourself, you deserve it, & we are here to give you that much needed break. We will provide you with the freedom to carry out other responsibilities knowing that your loved one is safe & well cared for. Your mental & physical health is vital to us all!
Seniors and those with disabilities need mental stimulation & often do not get enough. Being around others & partaking in various activities allows your loved one to exercise their mental muscles so that they will remain sharp & alert much longer. Studies have shown that seniors who do not receive enough social interaction lose their mental clarity at a much faster rate compared to those with strong social ties in the community & who get out of the house for activities on a regular basis.
